A Nintendo Wii Games List For The 4th Quarter Of 2009

In marketing, the 4th quarter of the year is known as the time when people are in the “holiday mode,” a state of mind that makes them more susceptible to buying particular things.  Hence, companies release their biggest products during these last 3 months of the year because the “holiday mode” will provide a product the biggest chance of becoming a commercial success.

Video games are no exception.  For most gamers, the 4th quarter of every year is the most exciting.  This is the period when the big video game companies release their big time titles.  And for the 4th quarter of 2009, big titles are in store for the highest selling video game console of this generation: the Nintendo Wii.

Looking for a Nintendo Wii games list of the biggest titles coming this year?  Look no further.  Below are the 10 of the most anticipated video games for the said console.

Remember, if it’s not in this Nintendo Wii games list, it’s not destined to be a memorable title.

1. Wii Sports Resort.  Finally, a sequel to the game that ALL Wii owners have.  Wii Sports Resort will feature more activities like basketball and skydiving, and will be the first to actually require the new Wii MotionPlus controller.

2. Muramasa: Demon Blade.  One of the most heralded titles in this Nintendo Wii games list.  Remember Odin Sphere?  This game is presented the same way, albeit, with prettier graphics, bigger baddies, and a more engrossing story.

3. Dead Space: Extraction.  This is not a port of the sleeper hit of 2008.  Dead Space: Extraction will do for the franchise what Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles did for its mother series.  That’s right!  A new story behind the story, presented via a rail gun action game.

4. Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games.  Just the mandatory Mario and Sonic crossover for a worldwide sporting event.

5. The Biggest Loser.  The one and only video game adaptation of the hit weight loss reality show.  The game will involve the original hosts, Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper, and the activities that the game will demand will make good use of the Nintendo Wii’s unique peripherals, i.e. the Wiimote and the balance board.  This promises to be the most unique title in this Nintendo Wii games list.

6. We Cheer 2.  The unlikeliest entry in this Nintendo Wii games list.  Using the Wiimote and nunchuck as physical representations of digital pompoms may sound weird, but it was fun enough for the original that it merited this equally enjoyable sequel.

7. Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles.  The sequel to Umbrella Chronicles promises more of the same rail gun action we have come to love (or hate).  Discover more secrets behind the stories revealed in the main Resident Evil series by visiting the scenarios presented by this game.

8. New Super Mario Bros. Wii.  The most anticipated title in this Nintendo Wii games list.  The new installment of the legendary platformer will include 4-player coop mode.  No online support, however, and 4 Wiimotes will be required.

9. Sadness.  An atmospheric adventure game, Sadness is the Wii’s answer to the Playstation 3’s Heavy Rain.  Rendered entirely in black and white, do not expect an experience like Mad World.  Sadness is a dark, dark game that promises to enchant you.

10. Little King Story.  A god game with a twist.  Follow the adventures of a child king as he wanders the land to amass some loyal servants and increase his reputation and following.  A lovechild of an RTS and an action game is the best way to describe this entry in our Nintendo Wii games list.

Wii MotionPlus

Nintendo’s upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space.

The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play.

Key software available for Wii this holiday season

  • Wii Music: It’s a new Wii experience that launches on Oct. 20 and gives you the ability to play a wide variety of musical instruments by using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers to mimic the motions used to play real instruments. Everyone in the family will enjoy jamming together, while music fans will enjoy creating their own fresh, stylized takes on a variety of songs. Songs range from classical favorites like Beethoven’s "Ode to Joy," to pop hits like "Material Girl" or "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" to Nintendo standards like the Super Mario Bros. theme.
  • Animal Crossing: City Folk: This game lets you live your life in a virtual community that’s all your own. You can interact with the fun characters in your town, customize everything from your house to your clothing and even chat with other friends in the game using the Wii Speak. Animal Crossing: City Folk launches on Nov. 16.

Another great news is that WiiWare will deliver great new games directly to Wii consoles that are connected to the Internet.

Nintendo’s downloadable game service will see games like:

  • Tetris Party: This game will feature 18 game modes, including 10 never-before-seen single-player and multiplayer variations of Tetris. Some modes will use the unique capabilities of the Wii Remote and the Wii Balance Board.
  • Strong Bad Episode 3: This third episode in the series features humorous story-driven game play, music-themed collectibles and achievements and an old-school side scrolling shoot ‘em up mini-game, as well as a special celebrity guest appearance by rock gods Limozeen!
  • World of Goo: This title is an award-winning, physics-based puzzle/construction game. Grab living, squirming, talking globs of goo to build structures, bridges, cannonballs, zeppelins and giant tongues.
  • Cave Story: This title is an action-adventure game with new, exclusive content and features created only for the WiiWare version.
  • Boingz: Developed by the award-winning studio NinjaBee and published by RealNetworks, Inc., Boingz introduces players to bendy, stretchy little critters who’ve found themselves scattered about an alien world. Using the Wii Remote, players can grab, stretch and fling the rubber-band bodies of the Boingz to bounce them around the environments and help them find their way home.

Key games planned for Wii in 2009

Punch-Out!!: Nintendo is reviving one of its most storied and popular franchises with the first new Punch-Out!! boxing game in 15 years. Players will once again follow the exploits of the up-and-coming challenger, Little Mac, and take on a series of opponents, including favorites from the past like Glass Joe and King Hippo.

Sin & Punishment 2: The announcement of a sequel to one of the most popular Japanese import titles ever is a dream come true for avid Nintendo fans. This new sequel blends intuitive Wii Remote pointing controls with the shooting and sword-swinging game play that made the original an instant classic and fan favorite.
